We were just starting our marriage and we moved to another city because I got a very good job offer, and a year after that my husband received an invitation from his boss to work in Canada. I had mixed feelings about that notice, I have always loved to travel and get to know new places, and living in another country will be even more exciting, however I also loved my job at that time.

When we finally decided that we were going to move to Canada, I thought: “okay I am going to apply to a job when I get there, but what am I going a do meanwhile all the paperwork is ready and we sell our stuff and all that?”

Well here is how I started my journey as a freelancer…

Moving and worried about not having a job

On June of 2013 I went with my boss to tell her our plans, also told her about my concern for not having a job in the meantime, so she told me about this company that hired Software Quality Assurance people remotely so I got sooo excited and applied, however they were not looking for new people at that moment and they had a very looooong process in order to add new people to their team anyway I did not have anything to lose, so I tried. After 1 month they called me to be part of their team for “on demand” projects, meaning that it was not a full time job, there were going to be good days and bad days, depending of the project, that was my first experience.

Signed up and look for more freelance jobs

In one of the interviews at that company I found out about some pages that hired freelancer from all the fields, and I did not know about it, so I signed up and filled up my profile, after a few weeks they called me for an interview and they hired me immediately, I was so amazed!

We finally had moved to Toronto by the end of 2013, but only for 2 months so we could evaluate if we really liked it and if we could handle the winter.

Decided not to look back

During all this time we were moving from Hermosillo to Monterrey, then sometimes we would go to Texas and spend some weeks there and go back to Monterrey until we went to Toronto, and during all this time I was able to work, earn more money than I was earning when I had an on site job and enjoying time with my family, t
ravel a lot, spending more time with my husband, cooking and working out. Before that time I was not able to do all those activities because I was from 8am to 8pm at the office and I did not have enough time, and I was so stressed all the time, even when I loved my job.

So I thought, this is it! I won’t look back, I can be my own boss and manage my own time. I can be a freelancer for the rest of my life, that way my husband and I can start our family and I can take care of my kids and spend more time with them. And that’s what I did, my clients have been increasing as well as my reputation and I also have built a small business and have a small team.

I think it is very important for us, women, to spend time with our little ones and with our husband, taking care of our nutrition. We can still work from home, yes! it is doable! If you have any questions on how I did it, let me know in the comments and I can help you, also subscribe because I will be posting more details about this and also will be giving some guides and tutorials on how you can also work from home.
